   Hello Chris,

   Thank you for your Maya Python Tutorials. I am fairly new to the Maya programming environment and I am trying to make a connection between Maya and a MySQL database using python. I saw your tutorial on that and it seems pretty straight forward. Its just that I am finding it difficult to customize my Maya Python properly so that Maya Python can successfully load the Python DB connector. I am not even sure where to install the DB connector files that I have downloaded from SourceForge. I know this might sound like a stupid question, but I would really appreciate your help.

   Hi, make sure you use the right DB Connector from here and place the package in the right path: YOUR MAYA INSTALLATION PATH/python/lib/site-package

   Thank you very much for your response. It was quite tricky to find the python/lib/site-package in MAC OS, but I finally found it and I placed the appropriate DB connector package (for python 2.5 since I am using Maya 2008).

   But I have another problem now, whenever I try to import MySQLdb, I get an error msg stating that my Maya python cant find the “pkg_resources” module. From what I understand, this module comes with the python “easy_install” plugin package. Do I have to install this package to use the DB connector in Maya Python or am I doing something wrong here?

   I appreciate your help Chris.

   P.S. I have unzipped the DB connector egg package and copied its files to the site-package folder. Could that be the problem? I read somewhere that python CAN use egg files directly, without unzipping them, but that didn’t work with me so I had to unzip it first.

   From what i know, you only need to install the default Python installation package. You can do a python command to check the system path of your python. You should be able to see a list of directories where python will read when it is loaded. Try find a directory with “site-packages” in it. That should be the directory where you should put your mysqldb connector files in.

   When you have done that, try the import command again.

   when I do this it gives me that error.

   mc.setAttr(‘emitter1.emitterType’, 2)

   Hi Cheeloong, it just means that the data that u used is not a tuple.
   Tuple is python’s array.
   try this:

   
import maya.cmds as cmds
cmds.particle(n="particle1")
cmds.emitter(n="emitter1")
cmds.setAttr("emitter1.emitterType",2)
